Colorful spaceships and twinkling stars welcome young
patients and their families to the newly renovated
Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) at the Children's
Medical Center at Summerlin Hospital.
Truly kid-friendly, the new space has eight pediatric rooms --
twice as many as before. Larger rooms with doors, not curtains,
separate children from other patients.
"The ER expansion, including the updated Pediatric ER, was
uniquely designed to not only help expedite care, but to provide
patients with a more comfortable and private environment when
receiving that care," said Robert Freymuller, CEO/Managing
Director at Summerlin Hospital.
The Pediatric ER is specially outfitted with kid-sized equipment,
beds and supplies, including:
Lifesaving defibrillators customized for children
Child-sized blood pressure cuffs
Systems that quickly identify equipment and medicines
appropriate for a child's age and weight
"All of this allows doctors and nurses to work with children
in a different way than they work with adult patients," said
Michelle Dimoff, RN, Emergency Room Director at Summerlin
Hospital.
Doctors, nurses and other staff members continue to provide
the high-quality care you expect. Doctors in the Pediatric ER
have received extra training in pediatric emergencies and must
pass a test that certifies them as pediatric emergency physicians.
They're trained to deal with emergencies that may require
unique techniques or procedures, or use special equipment. Also,
they specialize in easing the pain and anxiety that children's
emergencies can cause families.
The newly renovated Pediatric Emergency Room at the Children's Medical Center at Summerlin Hospital offers a colorful,
private environment (1 and 3) and is specially outfitted with kid-sized equipment, beds and supplies (2).
